Both chardonnay and pinot noir tell their stories across a broad arc of expression; from pale, fair and ethereal to saturated and stacked. In some vintages, these voices come together in one symphonic chorus but oftentimes, the highest possible answer allows us – or rather, demands – that we turn our attention to a single expression and allow it to rise into a bottle of its own.
Only produced in certain vintages, Aequorin chardonnay and Obelin pinot noir step down from the risers and into the spotlight to deliver the rarest solo performances.
The 2020 Aequorin tells the story of the season in the clearest voice. Not the fires but the focus. All we had was this: seven-fiftieths of the fruit we typically harvest, all white when typically, mostly red. Distractions disappeared and left in their place, their opposite – a mindful possession, in clear and vivid form.
Falling in love is a phenomenon of attention and our work a kind of record of the moments of our collective attention. Here then, for a moment, in a reduced world, our conscious life more concentrated, the forces of our hearts and of our work converging to act upon one single point. This chardonnay, that point; the object of our undivided attention. All of us, in love.
A vivid, brilliantly defined wine with razor-sharp acidity and laser-like focus that redefines intensity. It is the vinous proof of our attention, the clearest emotional lens into our work.
