Where is Alder Creek?
Alder Creek is a small stream west of Haines Falls and the town of Cherry Grove, east of Barney Reservoir. It is a thirty-minute drive from Antica Terra in Dundee or the Allison in Newberg; about thirty-five minutes from McMinnville and forty-five minutes from Portland.
Why do I need a driver?
While the creek is open to the public, the entrance is a fire access road, and parking is not allowed. There are sometimes parking spots along the road, but it is unreliable (and not the nicest walk). A driver will allow you to easily access the trail without putting your car in jeopardy of towing.
Do you really top your barrels with rocks?
We sure do – but just some of them. We’ll tell you all about it while we walk the creek together.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
You may cancel your reservation for a full refund at any time up until seven (7) days prior to your excursion date.
What should I wear?
The weather in Oregon is reliably unreliable. Check the weather in the town of Cherry Grove, Oregon on your favorite weather app prior to your visit for the best idea of what the day will bring. If it’s warm, there is a great swimming hole and if it’s cool, layers are your best bet. In either case, waterproof shoes or sandals are ideal.
What if it’s raining?
Welcome to Oregon! No seriously…it might be. It rains a lot here; that’s one of things that makes the wines what they are. Check the weather as your excursion approaches and if there’s a cloud icon on the day of your visit, please wear a waterproof jacket and your host will bring a not-very-glamorous but very helpful tent under which to host the tasting. A mug of Tim’s Hen Broth™ can warm the coldest of hands (ask Maggie) and a change of dry clothes in the car is never a bad idea.
How far do we have to walk to get to the creek?
The creek is an easy, seven-minute walk from where your driver will drop you off. While it is a maintained trail, it is unpaved, and the terrain may be uneven.
Should I bring snacks? Water?
We’ve got you! Your Antica Terra host will bring water and water glasses and we’ll have a proper picnic after picking rocks. We will be actually picnicking (read: no chairs) so please let us know if you have a physical condition that would make sitting on the ground a hardship.
Is there a restroom?
There is not a restroom at the creek but your host will bring sanitary supplies or your driver can take you on a quick trip back to the town of Cherry Grove.
