Where is Tillamook State Forest?
The Tillamook State Forest is a 364,000-acre publicly owned forest located 40 miles (64 km) west of Portland in the Northern Oregon Coast Range; an easy one-hour drive from Portland or the Willamette Valley.
Is it really legal to steal plants?
Yep! The state’s just that generous. Oregon’s state forestlands offer a variety of special forest products that can be harvested or collected. Examples include: Alder or Corral poles, Beargrass, a variety of ferns, Huckleberry and Salal.
Do I need a license?
Antica Terra holds a commercial license but should you choose to go back on your own, no permit is required for personal collection.
What if I need to cancel my reservation?
You may cancel your reservation for a full refund at any time up until seven (7) days prior to your excursion date.
What should I wear?
The weather in Oregon is reliably unreliable. Check the weather in the town of Tillamook, Oregon on your favorite weather app prior to your visit for the best idea of what the day will bring. In any weather, layers and comfortable, sturdy shoes are your best bet.
What if it’s raining?
Welcome to Oregon! No seriously…it might be. It rains a lot here; that’s one of things that makes the wines what they are. Check the weather as your excursion approaches and if there’s a cloud icon on the day of your visit, please wear a waterproof jacket and your host will bring a not-very-glamorous but very helpful tent under which to host the tasting. A mug of Tim’s Hen Broth™ can warm the coldest of hands (ask Maggie) and a change of dry clothes in the car is never a bad idea.
How far do we have to walk?
We’ll spend two to three hours walking on easy trails. While the trails are maintained, they are unpaved, and the terrain may be uneven.
Should I bring snacks? Water?
We’ve got you! Your Antica Terra host will bring water bottles for our walk and we’ll have a proper picnic after gathering our plants.
Is there a restroom?
Yes. There are several restrooms in the state forest. Your Antica Terra host will ensure you have access to facilities both before and once during your excursion.
How will I get my plants home with me?
Our guide will show us how to wrap our plants responsibly and your Antica Terra host will bring burlap, twine and scissors enough for all. For guests who reside outside the area, we are happy to offer shipping on the plants you’ve gathered.
